SweaterLodge Film: Raccoons, Raining Plastic Bottles, Giant Sweater-God
A panorama of Vancouver was recorded from the 42nd floor of a revolving downtown restaurant. The recording illustrates the city’s proximity to the mythical oceans of the pacific and mountains of the Cordillera.
Using this as a base, the film was augmented with numerous animations, computer enhancements and film footage gathered from an open call for SweaterLodge-themed moments of Western Canadian life. A raccoon drives a skytrain, the city rains plastic bottles and a giant sweater-god performs jazzercise on top of buildings. And this is just in the first few seconds.
Visitors to the SweaterLodge will be able to view the films by riding bicycles. The bicycles are linked to computers that register the rate and direction of the pedaling. Both the films and their sound tracks can be played in a dj manner. Back and forth. Fast and slow. Just like scratching.
The film was a collaboration between the Pechet and Robb studio and Global Mechanic.
