Mama

This giant human-scaled nest was a short listed proposal for the new City Hall Plaza in Richmond BC. Mama was conceived to reference the fact that part of Richmond’s identity is connected to the migration of millions of seabirds and human beings (as home of the Vancouver International Airport). Mama is a home to come back to, and fabricated from the “scavenged” buildings materials from the city hall itself. Railings, for example, become the grass-like edge to the nest and two bent street lights provide a protective eye to those nestled below.
